He is Ali Ibn Abi Talib Ben Abd Al-Muttalib Bin Hashim. He came from the most respectable family of Quraish, the family of Banu Hashim, and he was the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace be upon him). His mother was Fatimah from Banu Hashim. She embraced Islam early and migrated to Madinah. His father Abu Talib was a chief of Banu Hashim and an important branch of the powerful Quraish tribe, and he was the custodian of the Kaaba. Besides, he was an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace be upon him).
